Mike Arpaia is a Research Assistant in the Genetic Logic Lab at the University of Colorado Boulder. His research focuses on computational and experimental methods for improving the reproducibility and automation of genetic design and experimentation.

He is primarily interested in the development of vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics for emerging infectious diseases using methods from genetic engineering and synthetic biology. He enjoys working on both wet and dry lab approaches to synthetic biology, and is particularly interested in the tighter integration of computational and experimental methods for improving the accuracy and scalability of experiment design and execution.

In addition to his work with the Genetic Logic Lab, Mike is also an editor of the Synthetic Biology Open Language (SBOL) standard. Mike brings 15 years of industrial experience building large-scale data and machine learning systems, having spent the last 8 years with a specific focus on deep learning research and engineering. Professionally, Mike is Managing Partner & CTO of Moonfire Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm.
